Really rubs me the wrong way how he was a powerful hero that's so weak now. Has he just degraded with age and lack of practice with magic, or does he have some trauma with his power? I guess he also hasn't had any reason to use it so is just another secretly strong character thats going to wow everyone around him once he reveals it. Either way I hope he snaps out of his meekness soon

While MC does seem to be somewhat meek and shabby, I don't see any indication that he's actually weak as a mage. He's a middle-aged guy working as a biology teacher, so his might isn't on display. He does get kind of freaked out when a hot teen porn thing starts krakenating all up on him in class. But that's pretty understandable at any power level.

As @HYBRID_BEING pointed out, she means she's 16 in human years. Though we don't yet know for sure, it seems reasonable to suppose either that kraken girls live slightly longer than humans in this world, or that she's spent 16 years in human form. It doesn't really matter, though. The point is that she should be considered 16, whatever her actual age might be.
