So Akutsu or Kuribayashi are going to sneak up on the other side I'm assuming since Ashito is making a diagonal run.

5 man line without the ball, 3 cb line with the ball? ashito playing the 4 on def and 8 on offense? kuribayashi likely going for LW or false 9, idk, too little details, but it sounds like they switched to a more vertical/direct style, sounds good to me, possesion football is a snorefest.

I still couldn't fully wrap my head around the new plan from Esperion. But, let's try to make sense of it anyway.

Fukuda is subbing in Takeshima to take that CB spot. So, it's likely that Akutsu is going forward. As for Ashito, at the moment when he shifted inward, I thought he is going to be inverting into a more central role and make plays from there. But to my surprise, he keeps on going vertically from one side to another.

At a glance, it reminds me of Fernando Diniz' Fluminense, just like the video which DesertStorm shared in this thread. Absolutely no structure. Everyone in the team can go anywhere, preferably at a relative point of one another so that there is always an option to pass and combine in a quick pass-and-go manner.

This system allows the likes of Akutsu to join the attack as much as he likes, especially because Takeshima is now on the field to fill in that CB spot.

I don't think the author is planning to make another turn-around where Barca turn the table once more. I think the author is going to end the game in this chaotic Esperion manner. So, I think there won't be a moment where Barca would realize and exploit this system's glaring weakness.

Anyhow, what awaits is of course the long-anticipated combination between Akutsu, Ashito, and Kuribayashi. We will let them cook! 🔥

i thought of it too, but it just makes no sense to me. bcz from the very beginning, esperion's identity is possession, and their players are trained to play possession football as a result. and even fukada himself said from the start of the match that they'll face head-on with barca on possession. but i won't be surprised if they really abandon possession, regarding their expressions.

There is a difference between possession and positional football. Both is not related to each other at all.

One team can set up a strict defensive positional plan and play for the counter. Yet there are other team that loves to dominate the possession, and yet there seem not to be any structure in it.

What I'm saying is that Esperion is setting up for the latter where they hold possession without any clear position for its players, just like Diniz's Fluminense. With that being said, Fukuda and Esperion haven't abandoned their ideology at all.

From here onwards is a match between Barcelona and Esperion, between positional and non-positional possession football.

oh yeah, i forgot that. bcz many teams like past barca, mc and gooners play poss football with strict positional plan, i just assume positional play is poss. tks for reminding me. however i think for a team that is used to playing positional football like esperion, it's still gonna be hard for them, since they have not so much freedom before. i mean, imagine MC players play with so much freedom, like in ancelotti's real mardrid team....

Is there a break next week? I don't see it anywhere
It's a magazine break because of the holidays. This was issue 2-3, the next issue (4-5) releases on December 23rd. That's another double issue, so the issue after that will release on January 6th. So we have:

December 16: Magazine break
December 23: 392
December 30: Magazine break
January 6: 393

Any football heads here know what this is? It kinda reminds me of relationism since Aoi is getting more freedom to work in the pitch thanks to the 3 at the back...
This Diniz team, full-back Marcelo had complete freedom in floating the field, it may be that Ashito is about to achieve something in this aspect

It's probably a variation of current 343 attacking variant with a roaming playmaker which should be Aoi

It refers back to the previous guy with bird eye as well
Where he's an advance playmaker but with strict positional play
While Aoi gets the roaming card
