I think it's actually pretty obvious why it ended up that way in this chapter. He want to touch her and can't resist her but he believes his cold and focused attitude is what made her love him in the first place, he tries to keep it but its hard. The other guy is saying "but i couldn't resist" or something but is clearly missing the entire point.
