Even after Comiket, where do you think those doujinshi book go? They become available via online or if it's from a rather popular author, they can put it into your local bookstore unofficially. Like how you put your homemade crackers to your local restaurant.

First, it allows the authors to introduce a character subservient to the protagonist without said protagonist doing anything to earn said subservience.
It could work just as well had said character been hired help, for instance, but that'd limit the authors in writing the protagonists' circumstances (a poor adventurer can't afford a full-time live-in maid, for instance). More importantly...
Second, it allows the authors to present the protagonist as "good", "generous" or "remarkable" simply for not being a ridiculously stinky piece of shit. "Oh normally slaves are beaten raw daily but master beats me up only once a week <3 <3 <3".
