Looked it up and Scabies is a type of itch mite that spreads via skin-to-skin contact. It usually is MUCH less severe than that, just red dots + itchy skin. If Arte is correct (she's seen it before not be spread by contact), then that disease is not Scabies. Syphillis would be a better fit.

I think the author using the local name as at that time syphilis is kind of new disease (syphilis is spread globally from the New World after Columbian Exchange) and the symptom is still unknown for many places.
