You gotta admit the author writes kids well. The Nintendo 64 line is probably what a kid would say, and someone his age probably wouldn't know how to react to his friend shoplifting for him, or her parents arguing right in front of him. Interesting characters all around though

This felt like a realistic depiction of a kid from a troubled household, where the parents are all the time fighting each other. The shoplifting scene felt spot on, I'd say. What do they say in psychology? A kid in Amano's situation will purposefully misbehave and cause trouble to get attention from the parents.
