It's only bad if we needlessly moralize it. There is a certain aspect/percentage of romantic attraction (and hence romantic relationships) that are dependent on us finding our partners physically, viscerally, animalistically desirable.

We have this idea in society that that which makes a person a good moral agent also necessarily makes them sexually/romantically desirable, but that doesn't have to be the case. They can overlap, and in individuals who possess beauty paired with prosocial behavior, this is definitely true, but it doesn't have to.

People have been moralizing it since the dawn of time. It's why a lot of portraits of royals are with flawless skin and good looks when they probably don't look like that. You see the classic plot-line cliche of the husband looking for a "younger, prettier wife."

They can overlap, and in individuals who possess beauty paired with prosocial behavior, this is definitely true, but it doesn't have to.

The term you are looking for is the "halo effect." Where we define good looking people as those worthy of love, attention, and the spotlight. That's why there is a theory about how we are attracted to those with good looks because of how in the times before technology had the human brain wired to be drawn to them because we assumed they would be a good partner to create a good off-spring. But that's something for another day if you want to research.

Don't assume I'm disagreeing with you when I am. However, I am saying it is true that humans do judge looks. I have thought some actors were "ugly" in society when I thought they were handsome. That's why we need to work on ourselves first than point the finger on others when feeling looks doesn't not matter on judgement of personality.
