To be fair, this is how the majority would act in case they get isekaid. Unlike all the stories where there's an overwhelming "Imma the whitest knight cuz I'm such good people like our entire world which is the best", the reality is that many would their own survial at first, and then be gracious if they can allow it. It is a shitty but way more grounded approach.

Like the previous user said, its the bleak reality. You could save them and turn the "country" against you but its you against how many? Yes, you could level up but what about the other "heroes"? Would they accept to join you just to save your old school mates? What's in it for then?

There's a reason why stories of the "white knight" saving the damsel(s) in distress is just fantasy, while many of us imagine ourselves doing it, if we were hit in the face with it in reality the vast majority would prioritize their own survival first and foremost.
