Okay, my last comment I was in a rush but I have a moment now to get my full thoughts out.
I kind of saw this all coming a while ago, specifically when I was watching how things with Nanao developed. Both Asumi and Mai have become quite experienced when it comes to all forms of physical intimacy, but there is one critical issue that is preventing them from developing a proper relationship.
They both have zero relationship experience.
Mai focused so obsessively on a single kiss, she‘s missed the forest for the trees. Thinking about it, if she’d just kept in touch and remained close with Asumi, their relationship might have naturally developed from there.
As for Asumi, just look at what happened with Nanao. First, Asumi’s sense of boundaries when it comes to the appropriate level of physical intimacy are completely warped beyond common sense. She made Nanao fall for her because she acted overly familiar with her, unintentionally leading her on. Even in this chapter when she’s trying to maintain distance with Mai, her sense of what is and isn’t appropriate is so far off that she’s sending Mai mixed signals.
And even if they move past this, there’s the other problem, Asumi has no sense of self-control when she‘s not restricted by pre-established time limits. Unless they want their relationship to devolve into pure debauchery and want something more, they have a lot to figure out.
Plus, I don’t think either them put much thought into what they want their relationship to be.
