@Heimdal I think the grandmother didn't buy the house the ayakashi were already living in until after she was already quite old. It's been a while so maybe I'm putting parts of a couple of different flashbacks together wrong but this sounds about right to me. Still, doesn't really get rid of that vibe we're all picking up from this series all the time about how it probably won't have the happiest ending.
