Can't actually be mad at the CHF, though her being borderline cruel to Ayumu is....well, it rubs me the wrong way, all the same.

Especially because it sorta reads like she's treating Hayami/Hina like some sort of possession to be fought over. Which, that's just an uncharitable interpretation, but. "Focus of character & associated sympathy of one over the other" and all that.

Probably because the CHF is only being this way because Hayami acted like she was aro/ace for the longest time until Ayumu came along, and the CHF only now saw a change in Hayami's demeanor toward this one specific person. So she was content until an actual "rival" shows up and now she's almost being a bully about it, even as Hayami clearly doesn't mind hanging out with Ayumu when she knows Ayumu's around.

Anyway, I'm sure this won't end poorly for anyone, but the CHF's whole vibe right now is kinda just like ...kinda petty, almost?

But, thanks for the chapter.

And sadly for the CHF, its clear that Hina doesn't even consider her to have potential to be more. They are friends, and any closeness is from that and will never be more. The fact that Hina went out of her way to try and take care of Ayumu makes it pretty clear where her priorities are.

her whole attitude, even knowing why she's acting this way, makes her one of the few examples where I'm like "y'know what, maybe sometimes the childhood friend does deserve to lose."

She's a refreshing permutation of the CHF trope, but still suffers the tragic flaw that leads the main love interest away from them: complacency in their position as a CHF.

Unlike other characters in this trope, she is proactivly keeping her special/exclusive relationship with the main love interest. She doesn't just conveniently have moments of connection when the plot requires it. She's taking action against her "rival," Ayumu. This action is futile, however, because she's not spending any effort in changing her relationship with Hina. She works to maintain a special relationship, but because that "special" isn't "romantic" maintaining it will never lead to romance. This is in contrast to Ayumu who spends all her energy trying to romance Hina. All in all, they aren't really rivals since they have different goals. Only Ayumu is taking love seriously. I can't really fault Asuka, but I can't really cheer for her neither. She's not even cheering for herself

I think her character is really neat, but unless she changes her goals, I can't see her being a genuine rival for Ayumu

Very rare occurrence but the rival bit is pretty enjoyable here

but ngl, actively excluding and blocking MC from having fun with them the whole time is just insanely mean. Like, petty villain levels of mean.
Not at all saying she can‘t be redeemed but this half-chapter (for now) made her look like one MASSIVE unpleasant asshole.

Can't blame her tho, i mean pretty much anyone will do the same for the person they like

Nice to see that her first thought wasn’t jealousy, but rather a challenge to overcome which fits her character perfectly
This. I love Ayumu more after her expressing her excitement when our now antagonist now reveals she's also inlove with our love interest. She not only sees her as another challenger but also kindred with no malice. She was wrong but I find Ayumu's character worthy of being the protag the audience is cheering on.

I mean, sure, love is war and all but this is a rare school event where everyone interacts with their friends and schoolmates and has fun together.

Imagine you have no photos with your crush and good friend because a prick tells you that you‘re not allowed to.
Actually, I think she is a giga asshole now that I think about it.

lol all these people cheering for Asuka... shes been together for years and never had the courage, which is fine, but then instead of doing something herself she just took advantage of her being close to Hina to prevent Ayumu to approach her... she already even tried to make Ayumu feel like a nuisance before... such a sore loser. Dont feel bad for her at all.
