man, this has to be rough for asuka. she spends most of her life convinced her crush will never like anyone back and then she sees evidence that maybe she can so she tries to see if maybe she could with her, but gets totally shut down. both a breaking of her worldview and her heart.

Asuka's got a bit of that haughty vibe to her, being a bit disparaging toward Ayumu when it feels sorta unnecessary.
But I get that she's frustrated and hurt, thinking "well Hina will never like anyone, but at least I get to be her closest friend this way", only for Ayumu to show up and turn everything on its head - even for Hina, it would seem.

So while I think Asuka needs to chill out a bit with her weird animosity toward Ayumu, given how one-sided it is (Ayumu wants to be friends/rivals with her, and doesn't return the resentment at all from what we've seen), I can still be sympathetic toward Asuka's heart getting broken here.

Thanks for the TL work, as always.

At least Asuka has tried now. Sitting on the sidelines and complaining someone else is competing was annoying so I'd much rather she actually try and convey her feelings, admittedly in a very tsundere way. Sadly for her, she started waaay to late and Ayumu has already got the judge's attention.

I love that Ayumu is just embracing the ray face thing. Honestly her being an incredibly good sport and being able to roll with just about anything probably is her biggest strength and advantage in her endeavor to woo Hina (and if I were to guess, likely also one of the things Hina likes most about her).
I also like that in contrast, it feels more and more to me like Asuka never actually tried to make a move because she absolutely can't handle any setbacks or rejections, so she just ended up playing it safe. Makes her and Ayumu interesting foils to each other.

Its so over for the childhood friend, but then again, when is it not over for them? Those two words as your job description might as well be a death sentence in romance!

Man, I'm really sad for Asuka
And I really hate Japanese authors that 90% of the time don't know how to progress a story, so they just make the "childhood friend" a punching bag and make them suffer :fml:
Those mfers really have something against childhood friends :shamihuh:

Asuka is tall, athletic, can play the guitar AND looks good in flannel. She would be the prince of the entire dang school if she weren't so deadset on the one girl she has zero chances with.
she looks kinda like catnip to lesbians, but not necessarily someone who'd be appealing enough to straight girls to be the prince of a school. especially since this is not an all-girls school where straight girls take what they can get.
