Say whatever, but i really dislike this type of rival. She has been passive for yrs and now that Ayumu is around Asuka keeps trying to meddle in a petty way and take advantage of her friendship with Hina. Idk if the author is aware of common sense but Asuka really is doing everything right to be disliked.
"i have to try harder tomorrow"... girl u're not even trying u're just bothering both.

Its so over for the childhood friend, but then again, when is it not over for them?
Circa 2000, the trope was totally reversed. Every romantic comedy main love interest ended up being a childhood friend then. I feel like the current situation is really just a reaction to that, but at this point everyone seems to have forgotten how it started.

The progenitor of the harem genre as we know it, Love Hina, had the childhood friend connection as its narrative core. Only the childhood friend could win.

Haven't seen Love Hina mentioned in forever. Correct on all accounts though, yeah. Each generation of writers is reacting to what they grew up with and some work to "subvert" the stories of their childhood, inadvertently swinging the pendulum to and fro for the next generation that follows.

There's still time for the poly pivot. :meguupog:

Definitely not cope
I don't know, it feels like any sort of romance is already a lot to grasp for our sports-for-brains main romantic interest, a polycule would be a very tall ask :p

Binge reading it just now and I gotta say, good story pacing, good comedy insert and timing is impeccable, good sequence changes, good characters, what more can you ask?

Asuka flaunts her status as childhood friend, but it's so clear that she still doesn't believe that she actually has a chance, so she has to (try to) drag Ayumu down to her level, but is simply beaten by the boundless optimism and stubbornness of someone who lacks the knowledge of societal cues.

She's honestly just really pitiful to me. Hope the best for her tho.

The sad thing is that, if she had just put in an honest effort, not simply testing to see if she should even try, but a real effort, she probably would have a chance. Especially if she did so before anyone else came into the picture.

Thanks for the chapter :D

Why is nobody talking about Hayami's lesbian awakening (?) at the end of the chapter? Someone called at the worst possible time.

Also, I feel like this chapter demonstrates why Asuka is afraid to actually confess to Hayami: she just does not want to get rejected! She knows that Hayami is not currently romantically attracted to her, but she believes that she can make Hayami fall for her just by being a really really good friend.

Unfortunately, this is clearly not the case. Hayami seems to want to know why love matters: that is why Asuka's physical gestures are not enough. Ayumu is willing to do brave things, be emotionally vulnerable, and go outside her comfort zone because of love. This is what Hayami sees, pushing her closer to the realization that being in love means you care enough about someone else to push yourself and be the best version of yourself. The moment she realizes that is the moment she will start reciprocating the feelings of other people.

Also, I wonder if Hayami will begin to figure more things out. She noticed that something is off with Asuka this chapter, and was definitely close enough to hear her heartbeat...
