Baki Rahen, where all the best parts are gone and left with boredom. Seriously, Baki Dou's introduction pretty much sums up everything of how they feel after everything they did.

And you've kept up with it for so long despite that? There are plenty of people who enjoy it. Don't force yourself to read if you're not one of them.

Rahen means nothing ATP. I wouldn't be so mad if anything else had taken its place but Rahen had a thread, dropped it, then has been spinning its wheels since. Acting like it's good RN is a disservice to the actually good parts of baki
And if you say this people will go "hurr durr but the story ended with Son of Ogre" yeah well Musashi was post Son Of Ogre and had an amazing story, if Baki doesn't need to continue just don't have an ongoing manga.

It does not mean nothing. I don't know how many times I have to say it: "Baki Rahen" means "those around Baki". "Rahen" is used all the time in promotional material to talk about the general cast. "Bakirahen" is the term Motobe uses in the ending chapters of sumo dou to talk about everyone surrounding Baki.

Acting like it's a disservice is the real disservice. It's Itagaki's manga about Itagaki's characters; he's on record saying that his writing style has always been to understand his characters as if they were real people and allow their personalities to dictate the direction of the story under whatever theme or topic he'd like to write about. Nothing in Rahen is any different to how Baki has always been outside of the fact it has no singular focus. Disliking that much is fine, that's nothing to be faulted, but to act like it's just Itagaki acting willy-nilly is something to be faulted. What he wants is to study his characters in whatever way he feels like and if that isn't appealing to you you're free to stop reading at any point; though I recall you have a bit of a habit of proclaiming you're dropping a manga then being sighted still in comment sections not much longer after, so maybe there's no point in stopping if it's something of a compulsion.

Of course the title literally means Baki's surroundings/world and is about the guys around Baki, but the early going gave me the impression that it would be about self-contained arcs of Baki's side cast. (Too short for gaidens like the ones Doppo and Hanayama got). And I'm not some sort of Jack superfan, but it was absolutely building a story around him and then just sort of randomly stopped. I would rather it have gone for a shorter Jack arc it could wrap up than having him beat Pickle, not beat Hanayama (???) and then just sort of evaporate without a real conclusion.

Baki has always had naturalistically written characters but it also had a story with a beginning, middle and end even after Son of Ogre (like in Musashi-Dou). Baki always tried to have a thematic throughline, even in the Sumo arc. Rahen doesn't. That's why I say it doesn't mean anything, whereas even the worst arcs of Baki before this like the Raitai Tournament and the Ali Jr arc at least were trying to say something even if they did it badly.

Not sure what you're referring to at the end, probably Kengan, but at this point Kengan is like watching a car crash, it's been execrable garbage for hundreds of chapters. It doesn't take a lot of time out of my week to point and laugh before I go on to read something I'm actually interested in like Red Blue or Jin: Legend of the Fighting Kingbreaker or Subaru the Invincible.

I don't think Jack's daily business is fighting Pickle. Or having a conversation where his dad seemingly acknowledges him. Those are actually pretty important moments for him.

And if he wanted to break things up that's one thing but chapters like "Doppo beats up some karate guys" or "Katou tries to fight Baki for some reason" are at least mixing things up not like 10 chapters in a row of Yujiro glazing. For me the reason this chapter was the one that made me get really annoyed is we didn't need two chapters in a row of Yuujiro sexually assaulting the Japanese prime minister. It doesn't tell us anything about Yujiro, it's not biting political satire, it's just a complete waste of time.
