Overall, I feel that this is going to be like a redeeming arc for him - tried very hard to win and then finally flashback to when why he first choose to work in an Italian restaurant and such.

I don't think he deserve a redeeming arc, though. All this time, his acts are scummy and I prefer him to rot in the villain hell.
