That doesn't mean anything. It's a competition for high school students. It means they will present the high school as well, not just themselves, like the senpai mentioned. It's also the school/club's business in that sense, especially if every school can only participate with a single band. The other band's guys might not have even known the light music club has another band, the club seems pretty disjointed, so I won't blame them for not discussing the matter with anyone. But since another band appeared, they 100% need to figure out the band with better chances. That's how it would work in sports, music, and pretty much everything else. The first signing up is not a smart way to choose the candidate.

The Pillows is one of the most famous and respected band in Japan, was, if I'm right they disbanded this or last year, but after a career like 30 years long, they did a great job.

Good song, but not one of their best for me, but we all know that it depends on the listener, I'm sure that for someone this is as good as Blues Drive Monster is to me.

I'm kind of imagining the front man from the old band travelling back in time, and realising everything's been taken from him by MC, lol.
Also, I guess the author's Japanese band research, and his love of The Pillows finally became useful.
