I can see her listing their battles in a negative way but what about the reverse? What if the reason she is hyper competitive is her way of affection? She doesn't express her feeling but it might be that she does all that to get his attention, but doesn't realize that it frustrates him instead. There's zero indication she actually cares about any of the rest of the top scoring students, so it's likely she tries so hard to get to the top to get his interest in her not to be snobbish and brush him away.
IMHO, she might be borderline yandere in her obsession with him, while his obsession with her was just about the grades and feelings of being on top. It may be revealed later on that it was no coincidence that she "found" the clubroom that he was hanging out in to study. She didn't arrive to sabotage his studying but instead to try to find a way to connect to him other than in test scores.
