AH... I was trying to remember who Mira is, I just remembered... she is one of the kids that had been altered by the Zonohedron and then abandoned.
Now that I think about it, I think the first kid to die in the trial was one of them too.
You know... one of the things I always love about Kishiro-sensei's art style is the background.
There is so much... life in it.
As I got older, I started to notice many artists make the background art of their stories too... linear, streets are a straight line, buildings are just plain boxes without details, forests are rows of perfectly aligned trees without anything more than some short grass... there are no "curves" in the worlds they draw, no imperfection, and because of that... no life.
But Kishiro-sensei never does that, you can see the deformities in the streets, the bumps in the soil, the imperfections or peculiarities in the buildings, even when a place is so well constructed you don't see those, that is a narrative by itself.
