He's on the hovercraft with Gelgt when they evac Erica, near the beginning of Mars Chronicle.

No no, you are mixing the characters here a bit.

We know Parabellum is "alive", as a necro soldier as far as we know, in the present time... but the one you are thinking of is Gelgt.

Gelgt is the instructor we saw during the exam, and he was authorized to make it lethal, he was the one who killed Keun too, and we know from what Alita said in the present time segment of Mars Chronicle that he was Alita's teacher.

We don't really know anything about Parabellum, he, Gelgt and... I forgot the name of the other guy... but they appear to retrieve Erica after her fight with Alita, threw a kid at Alita, and screwed off to let Alita deal with the consequences of them trying to kill Limeira with a doppelganger of her.

He clearly is part of Dazein's forces, and we know Austad had connections with what we can presume to be the early stage of that, the Zonohedron (if they are that, we still need confirmation).

AH... I was trying to remember who Mira is, I just remembered... she is one of the kids that had been altered by the Zonohedron and then abandoned.

Now that I think about it, I think the first kid to die in the trial was one of them too.

You know... one of the things I always love about Kishiro-sensei's art style is the background.

There is so much... life in it.

As I got older, I started to notice many artists make the background art of their stories too... linear, streets are a straight line, buildings are just plain boxes without details, forests are rows of perfectly aligned trees without anything more than some short grass... there are no "curves" in the worlds they draw, no imperfection, and because of that... no life.

But Kishiro-sensei never does that, you can see the deformities in the streets, the bumps in the soil, the imperfections or peculiarities in the buildings, even when a place is so well constructed you don't see those, that is a narrative by itself.

Putting Erica to fight against "normal" kids, even if they had some training, is NOT a good idea.

I re-read Mars Chronicle and can confirm that you're right. The first kid died in the trial is the same kid who tried to shoot Alita/Yoko.

By the way, Tico Creyan (the kid who teamed with Parabellum) is also one of them.
