Nobody's addressing the elephant in the room: no comments on the ill ones, the old, the bedridden. Not here, not in the chapter.

I guess it's way too sad. Disappointment or disdain is for the room guests current state, is it justified thought? Would you want to go back? Would you not have doubts in coming back to that state? To that family?

For this guest (a bedridden lady fixated on her beauty long gone), the best option would be to accept reality and die, not to lose herself in the dreams. As far as I understand this story up to now, it shows people at different stages of denying reality. The snake even explicitly said "why would you return back to reality" and Alice answered "I hate lies", meaning, for her any reality is better than delusion.

We can argue on that but at least for this particular guest my stance is firm: the best option for her is to accept death.
