Neither japanese or english are my first language but here we go.
They(Japanese) have 2 words for that: suki(like) kirai(Hate/Dislike) if they really like or hate/dislike something they add dai before .But they can say if don't like or don't hate adding janai after suki or kirai.
So it's possible to say both i don't like something(suki janai) and I hate(kirai) something and both phrases have the same emotion intensity as in english
