It really showcases just how much Maou's impact on the world has changed. The humans still send a "Hero" after the Maou because... "that's what we've always done, it's tradition, we have to keep doing it." But... they don't really care or see the Maou as a huge threat because she has no armies. No monsters under her command. No invasions planned or taken underway.
So the same city that once threw rocks at her as she was paraded naked through the streets on all fours now will gladly sell her sandwiches because they don't see her as a threat anymore. All in the span of a couple hundred or so years.
And it shows how much society has changed. Heroes once gleefully chopped off her legs and arms and raped her and now all the townspeople are aghast that the Hero is making the enemy go naked or jizzing on her food.
And, ironically, it was Maou herself in a way that allowed this to happen. The threat of a demon army existing and still possibly requiring defense/deterrence made human civilization stronger and advance more because of a common threat. Only the threat never came, so there was no animosity to be had by humanity.
