Why cant she just end it on a sweet note, why'd she have to pull the "uh oh its open ended, so theres a good chance things won't work out" card

It was an alright read, very melancholic but I enjoyed it far more than any other romance manga I've read before. The ending left much to be desired; why is it an open ending like a thousand different manga?!
😭 Aikawa best girl!

I mean the ending was meh, it barely even counts as wholesome lol

But forced plot points aside I gotta give credit where credit is due. This manga really made me re-evaluate how I feel about pregnancy in general. The stigma attached to single pregnant woman is pretty big, and I’ve heard the term “damaged goods” used more than once. Shit, I’m ashamed to admit I’ve even had similar opinions. However, after reading this clusterfuck of a manga I have to admit that Suwa is the type of dude I want to be.

Fairly average manga. I find a lot of the reviews I found online mad overhyping it. The biggest talking point is how "mature" it is. Aside from the obvious SA and miscarriage, the characters act like your typical one dimensional shoujou/shounen characters. There is like no depth aside from maybe the FMC (where her entire character is just having a tragic backstory). Characters act completely erratically and retardidly that it really did annoy me. It's fine if you want some random one night read but by no means is the a master piece or even a great manga. It is simply average. Ending sucks too

It was a good manga, everything up until the ending was satisfying to read...but that ending was kinda pure doo doo. I hate to admit that. It was abrupt and open ended. I would've at least liked to have seen an epilogue showing the two of them with kids and running the family's restaurant or something. The whole "until he/she finds someone more suitable" was just like are you gonna have the two MCs struggle to get to this point just to be like "it is what it is" when it comes to the future?

Alright, I saw a review on mangaupdates that made me feel a little better about the ending. "They want the best end result for each other, but also hope to remain together forever, but aren't certain if they are the best for each other, so they're just taking it one step at a time, enjoying each moment they have together, and going with the flow, crossing each bridge as they come to it, since life is always full of uncertainty." An epilogue chapter still would've been nice.

It's not open ended at all, they remain together, they just tell themselves that because they are young and honestly, stupid. But knowing how life goes, anything could happen. But I am more inclined to believe they stay together forever because they both understand eachother and endured a lot but the main reason they may break up is because they don't feel like they deserve eachother's love, as they say at the end, he wants someone more mature for her, and she wants someone more cheerful and without traumas for him, if they can overcome that I doubt they will separate. Calling this manga "mature" can't be more wrong, the sister's whole attitude and cirscuntances, Aikawa who doesn't understand he loves her no matter what, Aikawa's mother ignoring her daughter's cries for help. The subjects and sufferings are mature, yeah, but the way they react to it just screams inexperience in knowing how to cope and act when such things happen, accompanied by lots of bluntness (like the sis saying "you are lucky" when the girl was rworded by her stepdad), which I understand because they are still very young. I loved the manga btw

Wow. I remember reading this with my gf back in college in 06. We both had a good cry reading this story. Was reading this on one manga (the original one). Can't believe I found this again. Brings back so many memories as it was one of the first serious mangas I've read

I remember this story, first read it back when I was a kid. I wish the ending was better but it's an okay read you can knock out in a single sitting

It was an alright read, very melancholic but I enjoyed it far more than any other romance manga I've read before.
Certainly a tad sad, but also very uplifting as well. It reminded me of this way of thinking I've gone on to acquire, and this manga made me re-appreciate what I've learned. That being, I used to find it cruel that the world keeps on turning after traumatic things happen; but, now I enjoy that the days keep coming, because so long the days do keep coming, I can begin anew myself.

In regards to the ending here, I think it's rather bittersweet. Sure, it's a bit ambiguous, and that does add a degree of agitation or angst. But, it's rather fitting. They've already encountered the throes of their emotions several times on their own, in their privacy, throughout this manga. Yet, every time, they have rebounded & showed resilience for the situation; being able to move forward, even if they have to momentarily retreat! So, now that they have revealed their strengths & weaknesses before each other, there's no fog of war for them to hurt themselves in. Those mutual ending comments rather reflect their understanding about themselves, of where they can change for the better. Yet, throughout this manga, they have encountered change in themselves, for the better of each bother; they can surely do it again, for each other. :hearts:

Another cute & sentimental ending-volume bonus there. Anyway, a great captivating & heartfelt manga; worth the read, and thank you for translating!

A short and nice read, that's for sure, but there were still some small hiccups here and there and the ending did seem to fall a bit short.

Suwa did change a bit too fast in my opinion, going from a ladykiller in chapter 1 to the Suwa we all know and love in chapter 4. Of course, there is the high probability that he just faked his ladykiller persona and Aikawa let him be himself (or that a 32 chapter long manga doesn't have the capacity for a slow change).

The whole thing with Kazuki was infuriating, but well, lacking empathy is human too, sadly. Still, a little less from her wouldn't have hurt, probably.

Suwa's sister is a special can of worms. I liked how she paralleled Aikawa in many ways, showing a "what if" to her case. Losing her child involuntary, while Aikawa gave it "voluntary" away was in many ways beautifully shown (though the child surviving could have also let to interesting scenarios; e.g. both were alone as mothers and while one couldn't shoulder the burden of motherhood, the other could,.....). Their discussion afterwards and the sisters opinion was however like jumping in cold water. Maybe it's just because I don't share her opinion, but not being able the see, hear and touch the baby that you carried for 9 months (the fetus being very active in later months, so feel him very well) is a trauma that can take a lifetime to process. Even after knowing he was dead, the sister still wanted to hold him. How much more if the child would be alive. (If I am wrong about this heavy topic, please don't shy away to correct me)

I would have wished the church being a more than just a scary haunted place no one goes to (which is extremely unrealistic, seeing as it wasn't dilapidated and rather grande; no big church is made if there aren't many people that would go there to begin with). A lot of Aikawa's and Suwa's growth could have happened in there, for example by meeting various different people and worldviews or perhaps talking with a priest in the confessional. I don't want this to sound preachy or injecting religion in a manga. It's just a missed opportunity in my opinion; the story starts and ends (if you close an eye) in the church, with the confessional and Mother Mary in the focus and a lot of the story's themes parallel with biblical ones (especially those from the NT, someone shunned from society finds redemption and salvation).
The way it was done raises the question of why a church was used at all. Could have been a bench at the park or the local Shinto shrine (would have perhaps been better for the japanese readers, I don't know).
Sorry for the rant.

The ending was like most of the contemporary mangas at the time, played safe. Would have wished for something clearer, but was still sweet and good.

While my critique may give the impression that I didn't enjoy this manga, nothing would be farer away from the truth than that. I enjoyed it very much and would gladly recommend it anyone who might be interested. The journey of Suwa and Aikawa, the tragic love of Kazuki and Yuzu, Yuzu's friendship with Aikawa and much, much more made me so immersed that I read the whole manga in one go. I thank the mangaka for writing this story and the translators for bringing this experience to us non-japanese readers.
May we meet again.
