If that is the case, then I still honestly don't understand what Yano's problem is.

Labels are generalizations, they describe how people in a social circle tend to react to a person - they do not work the other way around, as in they do not dictate how that person should act. Sometimes people actively hate the label ("otaku" for instance) they have been associated with, and some labels are not even warranted, created by gossip, false accusations or whatnot.

Some labels can be beneficial - if people think you're a nice person to be around, it might be a good idea to try living up to the claim if you want to get along with them. But it's still not a straitjacket.

Wrong term then. Rather than "label", "character"
It's like how idols in TV show present themselves as "out of touch with normal society", "airhead", "haughty", "cool"
It's defines a template of how they act externally. Other people who are part of the society then take that character and interact accordingly.
It might be imposed externally (like the bullied character), but also from the person themselves as their way to enter society.
Example from the story, the "funny guy" throws jokes as it's his job. The "straight guy" also play his role, providing a snappy response to the guy who make the joke. It's their unwritten social deal.
Or the "sharp-tongued" have to play her role, and her friends know to let it through (unless she went too far) because she is playing her part in the stage. She might even have to spend effort to keep it up, because her friends expected her to be mean.

My thought is...
During his middle school days, he can't get into the social circle. He admitted, his real personality is not a 陽キャラ (positive, extrovert) who can take a joke and return it, or build up exciting mood.
Being low-tension is his comfort zone, so he can't understand the idea of forming a mask to interact socially or bringing up the mood. Because he can't interact with them, he can only see the negative side of those persona being "fake" or "just an act", not the social function or if the person actually benefits from it.
Even though living in a society means balancing out and making sacrifices because other people got as much right to be there as you are.

Really, he could have naturally interact with them as the "introvert guy".
Sure he won't be as active as the top caste popular guys, his classmates won't interact with him as much.
But at least they can learn his limits and how much is okay when talking to him.
He's not even an anti-social, just a bit more gloomy.

Vol 3:
After becoming outcast, he met his junior and master, Kirika, who is expert in making up characters. She taught him the weapon she developed, a skill to read the situation and expectation from others, then acts to it at the right tempo and how far. That's how he had his masks.

But even after that, he is still caught in his idea about "wearing mask is bad" and doing it feels unnatural and stress him out.
In the other side, the success he had thanks to what Kirika trained him for, does makes a part of him feels good because he can do something for others.
It became his conflict later, because a part of him enjoys "being a hypocrite" who can bring up the mood.

What nonsense is this I like the concept of the split personalities but the "playing a character" thing is just wack and unnecessary

@Ayajdbwmns It's quite obvious why things are like that: the story wasn't made to be a really simple one.
Both main characters have their personal dramas to add to the plot, it's not just the female character directing everything and the male character just tags along like you usually see....
And what it implies is that maybe they aren't all that different, although the nature of how their "personas" work is very different.

This story is showing a lot of potential. If the drama will arise with one sister sabotaging the other, things will really get interesting around here.

@Ayajdbwmns I think what he's doing is just a more extreme version of what everyone does in life. When you're at work you definitely aren't acting the same as you would at home or with friends. You have different "masks" or personalities depending on where you are.
Everyone does this to a certain extent, but I think he takes it so far that he forgets about his own personality, thoughts and ideas. He goes along with things, even if they conflict with what he really feels or wants to do. As a person you should find a healthy middle ground where you have boundaries in what you accept and don't.
You should never go so far to chastise someone over everything you disagree with, but you also shouldn't let your own personality wash away in service of others

It's clear that Haruka is not the one he want to kiss.

MC said "wouldn't be unfair to you" is just an excuse.

Self control is important.

He loves Akiha and wants to be loyal to her. Seeing how stubborn he is with his life principle even when he doesn’t need to, cheating her with her “twin sister” won’t be something he can forgive himself for easily.
