A lot of it is process of elimination.

Japan only really cares about the first 5 Wizardry games (before they started making their own), but specifically they LOVED Wizardry 1-3.

But those games don't have very deep item lists; Wizardry 1 has only 28 different weapons, and Wizardry 2 and 3 only add a few more on top of those.

Though in this case I think I am wrong; looking again I can't find a weapon with the Critical Hit property (Critical Hits in Wizardry are instant-kill decapitations).
