Wasn't it the person he confessed to that bailed? The guy confessing had a black shirt peeking out under his chin, and black pupils. And the guy running out had white pupils and a closed jacket.
Guy got rejected, hard.

I agree that this manga had a huge "same-face" issue though, and even the clothes were nearly same-faced too. The literal only difference were pupils and how far they had pulled the zipper.
