Careful with the modern weapons, especially if the users think in terms of "magic"! In the manga "GATE", the use of antitank weapons against a bunch of dragons was a disaster because in the chaos of battle people forgot to check their six, and their comrades got burned by the rocket thrust.

Jo is seeing something like this in his exhortation to turn on the safety. They might not realize that the weapons work "automatically", even without an application of will, unlike magic. The will need a lot of training in trigger safety, maintenance, and ammunition control. Full auto mode can burn all of their ammo before they know it.
