How tf did he spin this into her having a superiority complex?

Wouldn't it be more natural to suspect that she's hanging out with you because your mom asked her to? They know each other and she came when your mom pushed you out of the house to get milk.

Shouhei seems like a loser a-hole. Yeah I can understand the concept of loneliness making you bitter, and it also makes sense to be vigilantly guarded when a beautiful woman approaches you out of nowhere asking to be your partner, but the way he went about expressing that was absolutely terrible. I don't even know how Izumi would feel so indebted to Shouhei's mom this much just because of a few tears. Maybe it'll make more sense once we get to know her.

I've tried to understand the logic behind these types of characters and the logic behind the author's writing them. The only conclusion I could come to was these types of characters/people fitting into the shoes/roles imposed on them by their social environment, either directly or implicitly.

For example, it is common for these loner types to have a background of being late to the entrance ceremony on the first day of school, which is an event where students build their cliques, and from how it apparently seems in Japan, it isn't easy to squeeze into an established group, despite it being easier to get kicked out of one. Not being part of a group, is essentially being a part of a group of "outcasts". Whether you have the personality to excuse yourself into a group is what determines if that's the pair of shoes you will be expected to wear for the rest of the school term, since that reputation will persist until graduation and extend past it if your future is connected to those with a shared history who might bring up the past.

I suppose the reason this character acts the way he does is as a defense-mechanism; instead of feeling rejected by the world, he rejects the world instead. He projects a superiority complex onto the FMC because he sees her as superior (her role) and himself as lesser (his role). This is the reality he imposes on himself as a result of his perspective shaped and marinated in his experiences from school. The defense-mechanism is at play when he frames it in a way that makes her look bad. It is an effective way to protect himself from the negative thoughts and justifications that might come from isolation, but as we can see, it hasn't done him any favors.

Endou is unlikable. I get that he has no friends, and I'm sure, as the story progresses, the author will expand on the reason why. Unfortunately, there does need to be something to root for; however, I'm more baffled Asano agreed to do this.

hmm ngl I think... this kinda makes sense. Like I know people pleasers that would actually do this, and also its hard to accept for some folks but going out with someone for 1 month is not that hard, like one does not have any points of interaction outside of planned dates, then thats like 3 meet ups played correctly, 2 if she really wouldn't want to see him a lot but still wants to fulfill the condition or smth. Thats totally doable and preferable over feeling guilty for possibly months because some poor women you might know real well is feeling depressed over her son.
Also I completely get the MC, as I know people with low self esteem and how they argue. Her actions are just plain unrealistic, like c'mon thats not happening in 1 million years. There are some ways why I'd assume she would do this: Most obvious the moms paying her, right after that is she wants to get money out of him and his family, there are a surprising amount of people getting money by using lonely peoples desperation to find love and just cus she bought some coffee, doesn't mean she ain't want some money, third is kink, some people really do like playing around with others usually abusing them emotionally once they made them feel attached.
So this chapter made the story more realistic in my opinion. Is it still unrealistic and won't ever happen irl? Yes, is it now possible? Yeah.
