EDIT: didn't mean the (concept of a) shopping date, I meant, is reading this enjoyable? The dude's self-doubt leading in self-sabotage (picking the worst shirt) makes me feel bad for him. Like, it looks like a really stressful date.

Here's hoping the big bro manages to shake this up in an interesting way.

Honestly, it's the older brother that planted those seeds of doubt in him that exacerbates the doubt and worries he has. So, for him, he especially wants to look good and presentable. Those doubts aren't gonna pass til they actually talk it out, which I hope (and think may) comes soon with the Kyoto trip.

Though, as for shaking things up in an interesting way...

Suggesting that she's lowering herself to his level because she can easily aim higher, that she's just getting along with him out of obligation and as a request of their late grandfather who she adored, that he's holding her back. Yep, was going to say effectively what you did outside of the ch. 16 spoilers. We see the brother doing that very thing to MC in the Big Flashback Chapter that goes over their childhood/initial meeting upon being engaged to one another.

And....MC just fully buys into being inferior. Academically, aesthetically, skill-wise...and she's not been the most clear and up-front about her feelings, even now that she's able to actually feel them.
I'm not saying she's leading him on or being a bad person or fiancee, but it's an actual factual case of miscommunication/misunderstanding, that has an actual basis, compared to most romance/romcom manga that rely on forcing that sort of conflict.

But I too hope that it'll actually come to a head on this trip. The fact it's such a long one, and one where he'll have to deal with her, and her brother - and we've already gotten a bit of buildup leading into what you described in your spoiler, so.
I kinda expect MC to crash out a bit, and/or pull further inward, which I really do hope will prompt our FL to step forward and speak her mind and heart, and push until he understands how much she cares.
Also I forgot we have what his grandfather said to her in the hallway during their study session, so that lovely little nugget is going to be bouncing around when she invariably perceives that he's withdrawing from her more and more.

I have a comment about page 27, though my Japanese may not be the best.
In the raws, she says:
"調べなくていいのでこれからも毎年プレゼントしてくださいね？"
I interpret that as "It's fine if you don't check (the floriography meanings), so please continue giving me presents every year, okay?" It's got a "thank you" vibe.

Basically, it's the "naku" part of the first speech bubble and "korekara mo" in the second. "Naku" makes the first speech bubble negative and "korekara mo" implies something like gratitude for him giving her presents each year and that she implores him to continue. The translation currently gives the impression that he should investigate and that he should start giving presents each year. Idk if my explanation makes sense, but just my 2 cents 😅
