The Acting Cuckoldry Elephant In The Room:

Ngl, I'm really dissapointed that this is ending so soon, since the second half of the manga we've been caught up random drama after random drama and our main couple never has a chance to decompress and just enjoy their company because there's ALWAYS some shit in the background generating dread for them, ALWAYS something more important in the moment.

Now I'm genuinely convinced that the whole conundrum with Anna's career is never gonna get meaningfully addressed, and the manga ending so soon helps in never having to touch a subject that Norio clearly doesn'y have an answer for.

People hoping for a sequel are coping, as is tradition whenever this happens
Well said, I fully agree. The latter half of the story hasn't been bad, but definitely underwhelming compared to the first. I at least hoped for a satisfying payoff near the end but it doesn't seem likely

I’m still devastated after learning that this series is ending with the next volume. There is so much more to see: High School arc, College arc, Married arc.

Honestly, I think that the dilemma related to Anna's career is more likely to get more time and attention and has a better chance of being resolved satisfactorily and without being rushed. I mean, there are several unresolved cliffhangers that have received a lot of attention and will therefore be resolved in some form. It is also one of the main storylines, so it simply cannot be left unresolved. It's also unlikely to be a very heavy drama, since the agency didn't even forbid Anna from having a relationship; it's Kyotaro acting out of fear, and in the end, it will turn out that it's not such a big deal or will be resolved much more easily. It's still a story, not reality.

What worries me more is that many things that could have been given more time will be dealt with in a short period of time. Kyotaro has problems preparing for exams that he cannot solve, and because of this, he has already failed one backup choice? It seems that everything will be resolved in two chapters, where Anna will say something inspiring to him, and we will jump abruptly to the next exams, where he will pass them successfully. Moeko's conflict with her parents regarding admission to her first choice high school. This happens in a maximum of two chapters and may not show us a direct conversation. Will Bayashiko find out that Kyotaro and Anna are a couple? Nothing will come of this, although Bayashiko has theoretical reasons to be upset that she is the last of Anna's friends to find out about it. A plot about Kyotaro finding his passion? This will most likely happen spontaneously as a result of the last volume. The appearance of Takano in the story, who is constantly in flashbacks? It's honestly sad that Kyotaro regrets not keeping in touch with him so that story wouldn't have to use him now.

Also, looking back, it is clear that a significant part of the cast could have been used more and made more important to at least one of the main characters and/or their stories. Serine was underutilized, and the guy she started hanging out with is not a character like almost every other guy, because Norio clearly prefers female actors, judging by her entire creative history. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a spin-off about Moeko, since Kana, who received a lot of attention in the story, already got her spin-off, receiving a lot of time in the main story, and Moeko even goes to a school where only girls study. Hara and Kanzaki were very attached to the main relationship, and the story where Kanzaki confesses to another girl is decided off-screen and relies on the reader to read the light novel. Nico Koda, to be honest, I hoped for some development, but she will continue to be even more annoying in the spin-off with Kana and Jin. I'm surprised that she received the least negativity among all the annoying characters, being the catalyst for the things that annoy readers the most. At least Adachi, Kankan, and Pickup-Pai got some development in relation to Kyo.

Well, the chances are not zero, but there are no guarantees for a spin-off, and even if there is one, it's not a fact that Anna and Kyotaro will be in the lead roles. I already said that it could even be Moeko, who surprisingly received a lot of attention in the main story. Especially since Norio wrote in her New Year's greeting that she is waiting for the moment to do something else.

The copium began earlier, when people assumed and even insisted that the story would continue in high school, when Kyotaro's healing after his failure as a result of meeting Anna and accepting himself is the main goal of the character in the story, after which it can be considered the end. Because that's what caused all the tension on his part in the first place. And it could lead to the resolution of another conflict. My main problem with those who assumed that the story would continue is that these assumptions were based primarily on the desire for the story to continue, which is why people tried to ignore the many signs of the end. Even after they leave high school, everything changes radically and cannot simply follow the same formulas because of this.

Well, what I would like to say in conclusion: everything seems to be rather rushed, and many things and characters could have been given more time and attention, but I don't think it will leave anything unfinished, and the global elements of the plot may still get enough time for everything to be resolved properly. There are still 12-13 chapters to go (rather than 1-3, as mangaka usually like to announce at this point that the story is ending), so it's a little early to say that the ending will be bad, even if everything could have been better.

No one promised that this would happen, even all the assumptions were based on the desire for the story to continue rather than on actual arguments as to why the story would continue. There wasn't even a single story that constantly told about the couple's whole life, lol.

This is not just a romantic story for the sake of a romantic story. This is a story about a guy who was broken after failing his exam, and Yamada's appearance in his life gradually helped him heal, allowing him, albeit slowly, but to come out of his shell and try to give himself a second chance and face what caused Ichikawa's downfall. Hence the title of the chapters - “karte”, which refers to a patient's medical record in a hospital. Norio calls the chapters this, symbolizing them as records, which show how Kyotaro gradually cures from his issues. The exam was the reason why Kyotaro became the way he is, and obviously his healing is the end point for him in the story, which he is trying to do now, facing exams again. And Kyotaro also helped Anna move forward in the same way (you know, the song he wrote is called “Moving Forward”). Expecting the story to continue after that is like expecting One Piece to continue after Luffy and the crew find the treasure. That's why they didn't find it, because the story would lose its meaning.

The fact that the story will end does not guarantee that this is all. First, there is a spin-off about his sister. Second, Norio may decide to make another spin-off, although there are no guarantees, and if there is, it will not feature Kyotaro and Anna in the lead roles, especially since Norio wrote that she is waiting for the right moment to do something new.

I don't know what else to say to you. There are other manga with more lighthearted stories after the confession, such as Tokimori-san and Akutsu-san, which are still ongoing.

Well, the agency didn't forbid the relationship, but we saw in an earlier chapter that Yamada's manager gave Ichikawa a rather clear warning that her job has priority and that there are people that are not cool with her having a boyfriend because this can interfere with her work. I strongly get the impression that by those “people”, he meant her agency and film producers, and that the manager was indirectly signaling to him that he should help protect her career by keeping their relationship under wraps. Suwa later on even praised him for being a positive influence to Yamada's work with the way he did things up to that point. Ichi protects her career by keeping his distance from her while they are in public especially when she started to get more recognition and the fake rejection she gave him and hearing her say "I ended up putting my own situation first" likely only reinforced his belief that this measure was necessary even if it got a bit extreme.

As you already pointed out in another comment, it is solely Yamada's responsibility to inform her agency about their relationship — especially considering that Ichi explicitly suggested doing so more than 30 chapters ago and she still hasn’t acted on it out of insecurity, which is why I don't think his fear of possible consequences is irrational and for sure not the only cause for the self imposed restrictions, as stated above. If she doesn't want him to avoid her in public, which even happened again in this chapter when he got stressed out about the first result, we know what needs to be done. Alternatively, she could simply tell him that she doesn’t care if she risks a career plateau, so there is a chance he can finally feel comfortable going out with her in public again (Remember that even when he was busy in the beach retreat, he still made time to go on a date with her in public with a lot of people around). With the exam issue going on, it's Ichi's time now to get some reassurance that she will stay by his side no matter what her agency does and giving him signs that she doesn't want to be lonely like in the previous arc is not enough. To be honest, thanks to people like Pigman, the agency and even her manager (who may have a vested interest in making money by having his client continue to put more focus on her job, unless the final volume disproves this) it feels like it was needed that Anna learns the hard way being in the entertainment industry comes with a great share of cost, but it's just a story anyway as you pointed out.
This chapter is actually a pretty nice step on Yamada's part toward making their relationship public.

In case you haven't heard, volume 13 just came out. In the extras, Sakurai-sensei mentioned that the series will end in volume 14.
I was thinking it will extend longer for many problems that Anna and Kyoutaro may have in the future, and how they resolve it, I mean like more seriously as they grow older.
Need a drink, pardon me :aquadrink::meguuusad:
