We don't really see this much in the story from Ichikawa's perspective, but it's nice to see that he's also sometimes playing the game of "implying that they want something" with Yamada (pretend sleep for a kiss in this instance). She's usually the one to do this. That's also why they are a bit alike, not just regarding how they feel about their past.
