Man I feel bad for Money Grubber. He was perfectly amicable, just wanting to show off a different possible path and the fruits of his labor, while not discrediting others. Hell, he even said he was fine with others surpassing him at this new field, he just wanted credit for pioneering it. But now he's feeling pressured and will probably make a stupid decision. Kururi should've held onto that sword until a while after Money Grubber unveiled his.

Pretty sure patent is not a thing during medieval era. The person who start selling something new are usually the one credited with it.
And in this case, MC giving that first sword to the adventurer may have already accidentally screw Money Grubber over.

I think you aren't quite right on him choosing quantity over quality in reality. He is selling quality blades but that are more ornamented than functional, which was what got the two of them disagreeing with his 'path'. His push towards the magic blades also shows that he hasn't discarded quality- just changed from utmost quality with common materials, following his 'path' of focusing on high-quality rarity.
