Who changed the goddamn translation to "Herran" is what i want to know, cmon guys katakana isnt THAT hard, its supposed to be either Helan or Hellen or some variant, as should be obvious from the western setting... this isnt rocket science :(

Hello, the translator here. I chose Herran because of these reasons:
ヘラン=if you write it it with romaji then it's "He-ra-nn"
So at this point you should know that "Helen" is out of the question(at least for me) because of the pronounciation.

Now comes the option between "r" and "l". When i started learning english when i was younger( I only spoke jap) I thought at first that the hiragana on the ら(ra/la) row (ra ri ru re ro/ la li lu le lo) was typed on the keybord with "l" instead of "r". So i get the argument that it's supposed to be "l" or sth, but i think that following the keybord(with jap) rule should be constant to prevent confusion and maybe also for those people who are learning japanese.
Fun fact: if you type in the jap keybord (la li lu le lo) you wont get らりるれろ( ra ri ru re ro) but instead ぁぃぅぇぉ(baisically the small version of あいうえお ) which are used like this: gyaa ぎゃぁ

If you still have any arguments or questions, feel free to try to convince me that it should be something else.
@banjomarx hope this helps

@Himada4 the thing about la li lu le lo on the keyboard is just for making small characters (little hence the "l") but in katakana ra and la are the same soundwise, and are often portrayed as such much like in "ラブ" or in "ラッキー" or in ”ルーザー” or in many other words lol, this isnt something you can argue about its just how it works. The whole "translations as an aid to studying japanese" argument thing is one of the most annoying things to me personally, i mean theres a reason we make jokes about memes like the infamous "keikaku means plan". If someone wants to learn japanese they should study japanese, not read manga translations xD. Honestly it feels like u kinda butchered the name, its pretty clear it should be Helan or Hellen (which in some cases CAN be pronounced more like ヘラン) while i appreciate that you are translating this, my point is that i believe your goal is to accurately and effectively translate the manga, not give us romaji. Translation isn't about being literal, or we would be stuck with very confusing grammar, so i personally believe that a translator should take a moment with katakana names to find what is the BEST interpretation, not the easiest.
im not trying to be mean or obnoxious but i AM kind of baffled by why you think that it matters to the readers whether you always give the direct romaji considering that many people who read this will probably never see the raws or have any idea of what you are talking about. My advice as a fellow translator would be to pick the answer that you think best fits the theme and mood of the manga, and as in this case this is clearly a western themed manga about a western character doing western things, a western name for the area is a better choice than one which doesnt mean anything at all.

Edit: Also who would you be confusing? i dont understand that part. are you assuming that your readers also have read the raws? if anything changing the names of characters after the previous scanlation group had picked a name is far more confusing than anything else, and should only happen if you have a very good reason

Thanks for the long reply. I think what you said made sense. I was just simply too literal and worried about weird things(especially when it comes to naming/translating japanese fantasy names cuz they are un-japanese but at the same time un-english if you get what i mean) But the chapter has been released, so there's nothing i can change for what i have done, but I'll disscuss this with my group and hopefully we get to a conclusion and change in upcoming chapters and hope that the readers will be fine with it.
This could also mean that it can stay as herran or it can change back(if it was like that before) to Hellan or Hellen(tho i prefer Hellan).

Thanks for reading this and thanks for disscussing with me about this since i never really had a fellow translator while i was learning translation so i'm glad i got a opinion from another translator.

Edit:
Yeah about the confusion part, i was too engrossed with comparing raws with translated ones that i forgot that most people dont do that. I'll keep in mind from now on...

@Himada4 lol its ok (sorry i get a bit ocd about this kinda stuff sometimes) it happens. Translating is hard, which is why i laugh at things like star trek and their universal translators xD if you want to discuss anything like this again just lemme know (though i know i can be quite abrasive)

It feels like the transition between time passing is really bad. Like horrendously bad. It goes from “I’m tired, I guess I’ll take a break” to “now I’m refreshed!” so fast. It seriously went from having lunch with the tall guy to the next day with nothing in between. That’s some bad writing

I can understand that. As a person who read this on a novel, yep they skipped a lot of details on this manga, its even more noticeable if you read the novel. even on chapter 1, they already skipped about 5chapters worth in novel (details from how did he died, details on why the world he sent to, his motivations to get a slim body to get him trained by a blacksmith since the blacksmith doesnt accept fatty apprentice, the details of how he learned the magic and what magic he learned etc...)

even in novel, as the chapters goes by, it gets shity and shittier as chapters comes by, but it paces up after
the visit on the royal capital arc, prison arc, drought curse arc and the amnesia arc.
basically the school arc is very boring.

I'm guessing the reason Iris was excited to talk to that other dude was simply to talk about the MC? I was really surprised that she liked someone other than the MC in an isekai manga but looks like that isn't the case.

i remember reading the novel a few years back

the mc gets more pathetic with every single chapter until he gets beat up as a setup to get together with the villain girl. the thing is, there was almost no buildup to any of that...
couldn't stomache it anymore after that and dropped it.
i felt like i wasted a day of my life and i normally don't feel like that even with the most shittiest novels.
