Are we really in the territory of shooting blanks until something actually sticks? Even for the sake of working on your people skills, you can't just keep trying to start conversations with the same person in such a short time span without making yourself look suspicious or overbearing.

They say this isn't like a dating sim, but they allow the dating sim mechanic that people don't think about one particular person continuously trying to latch onto them like it's nothing. I get the point the author's trying to make, but at least space it out between a number of different people so it doesn't look like he's trying to hamhandedly hit on her.

The author knows it's creepy. That's why the author is having him bug this random girl he happens to sit next to. and not the actual target girl. In maybe a chapter or two, if the manga doesn't cut it out, we'll see
the MC take mental notes about her POV, and how she's either disgusted by him, or strains herself to force herself to talk/reply to him.

@Talismaster It's just so odd, though; if she does get creeped out or disgusted by this exercise, by merit of what was told to him (that boosting relations with everyone will also boost those of who he's shooting for) this will adversely affect his other relationships with everyone. There's only so much to gain (people skills) and so much more to lose (actually having people to talk to without them spreading rumors of his suspicious behavior) from this whole plan.

This...might be the first time that I think her relationship advice is somewhat off base.

There's something to be said for keeping options open but, speaking from experience, it is a REALLY bad idea to try and keep girls on the backburner in case shit doesn't work out. That is a huge commitment issue and will only end up hurting any girl that you're involved with.

@OniBarubary, its more that in dating sims when you go down a route you pretty much are locked out from other routes (this is not always the case as breaching paths and all that) so in case it doesnt work, its not as if you can pick another route, its a all-or-nothing.

Her point was more that he should expand his circle so if he goes after a girl he doesnt have to be in a all-or-nothing situation, its also not "having girls in the backburner" but rather that if it fails, he can always go after another girl, unlike in dating sims were if you screw up on the route then you have no way out of that route, that is in real life bonds remain and its not a "restart".

The girl he's practicing 2x a day on (Izumi) hates his guts. The class knows everyone in her clique (the guy he beat at vidya being the center of the clique) has a low opinion of him. The class also knows that MC is a loner. Additionally, the "main target" (Kikuchi), is also a loner. Whatever enmity he earns with the "big bad" normie's clique can't possibly get worse as long as he doesn't come off as a total stalker. Any rumors they spread also aren't likely to reach Kikuchi either, since she's got a fatal case of no-friends.

Despite Izumi not liking our MC, she's a nice enough girl that she'll politely humor any attempts at conversation, but probably isn't keen on actually having any extended interaction with him. In chapter 2, she pretty much ditches him the second she hands him the tissues, and throughout chapter 7, she basically doesn't seem pleased with any of his topics until he says the name of the guy she happens to have liked since childhood. But all in all, this is just a training exercise to prep him for Kikuchi, so don't look too hard into it.

I really hope some weeb reading this doesn't take it as actual advice. Women don't appreciate you talking to them repeatedly for no reason (it borders on harassment), and they especially don't appreciate you getting chummy with other girls.
Kind of hilarious that the manga author would actually believe the whole "backup option" thing; most guys I know wouldn't be cool with their SO (or even their crush) hanging out with a bunch of other men, so why should women be okay with it?

I would love to see Tomozaki point out Hinami mentality flaw in the future chapter, Some element isn't work in real life but overall I still enjoy reading this manga.

I might put more thought about this chapter after I reached this part in the light novel.

@Exile You're exactly right. I just had issues with her phrasing of it cause the way you said it shows it's more about not focusing on one relationship to the exclusion of others so that if you fail or it becomes untenable your other ones haven't suffered or you haven't lost friends.
