This series suffers from the "First Companion" trope with the magician girl.
They could've taken that 'thing' out and let it be a comedy fest between the MC and Akane, and this series would've shot up from barely 8/10 to 9/10.
Well, that's just my impression anyway.
But there are truly some wasted potential here because, again, it suffers from unnecessary tropes.
