What did Dario actually do to make so many people hate him? I've re-read the chapters he's been in and I don't actually see him doing anything evil. Especially not to the level of comparing him to B:TAS Mr Freeze. Some people hating for no reason though.

@degenerateafro Absolutely nothing. All there was, was the suspicion that he was complicit in cursing Douglas, as well as being a bit of a jerk to him when he was kicked out of their group.
There were also the rumors about him being a scumbag after he quit the party, but he was quickly proven to not be so bad since his reintroduction, just a bit rough around the edges.
Either these people are misremembering things or are completely overreacting, and I would not want to see the reactions to actual hateable characters.

I guess a few are still mad at him for how he treated Douglas on his last days on the hero party. I get his reasoning based on his personality. The one adult you truly admire/respect has gotten this far down, is beyond pathetic AND is incredibly stubborn in staying. I agree that lowering what's left of his self esteem wasn't the best thing to do.
Still, I don't hate Dario as much as everyone. Douglas is strong but he can't always be with Ravi 24/7, no matter how strong his papa powers may be. While Dario is the reckless type with an even reckless battle style, Douglas still does need a physical fighter (who knows what the people looking for Ravi are capable of, heck, once they probably know most of Douglas's abilities, they might prepare someone with high resistant to magic or even downright nullify it)
At least, based on his backstory, Dario would so far based on all his recent appearance might protect Ravi too. He has the backstory and the motive to do it *he gets to keep working with Douglas, one of the few people he trusts, gets the money to pay off his debts, and as a bonus, compared to the what's left of members of the hero party, Douglas is a pushover, but at least you work with a nice guy (except when his daughter is in trouble)

It’s sounds like people don’t like him because he’s a jerk. That’s it. Maybe he’ll develop more. Or die saving those two.
And Mr. Freeze is usually thrown into situations beyond his control. He can’t live without his suit, and he just wants to save his wife.
Shoot, in the Arkham games, he works with Batman to make a toxin cure, reunites with Nora, then spends his remaining time with her as his suit fails and her disease enters its final stage.
Probably the most depressing backstory is Magneto, though. And he’s been proven right consistently too! Genosha enslaved mutants to create their utopia, and Red Skull created a damn concentration camp for mutants. And yet people still give him shit for taking a hardline against humanity.

@degenerateafro: I mean, given how many of these 'guy get kicked out of the 'hero party', come back OP' stories, I think a lot of people's impression of his was very low since he's one of the two to 'mock' Douglas about losing the license.
At the time, he WAS angry at Doug for trying to push himself to such desperate degree and not recognizing the reality of his situation (I think the laugh in that scene was because of how 'lame' Douglas looked at the time with the potion seller getup)

Well, this is a different take than the web novel.
In the WN he was just straight-up a loudmouthed jerk who used the Hero Party position to run up tabs everywhere, like he was in the manga up until this latest arc.
Now he's a loudmouthed jerk who can care for others (if a bit roughly) and has a tragic backstory.

I also don't know why people hate him so much. If any thing he reminds me of an old man in Gintama.
He outlived all his friends and even his wife, and he cried for them. One day, he found a puppy whose mother and siblings died during labor. He took the puppy ,cared for it and go on walks everyday. But, everyday he would always tell the puppy to die. To an outsider's perspective this may seem cruel, but the old man has his reasons. He knew the pain and sorrow of losing someone. Most people pick themselves up and move on, and some don't. The old man didn't want the puppy, who has already grown old with him, to experience the same. Sure, the old man had a son, who already has a family of his own, but there was no connection between him and the dog. The old man, who was already at his death bed in the hospital, picked himself up with the dog's leash in hand and went out for a walk with the dog. In the end, they both collapsed during their stroll. The dog died and said he won as he cried before dying soon after.

I also went back to reread chapter 1 and I don't know, what you guys are talking about. That shit hat went all over MC. Laughing about how he has lost all his HP (due to the cursed item) and how his way of life has ended/hit rock bottom. That was our first impression of him and it was baaad. No matter how you twist and turn it, (him being disappointed, trying to challenge him to do better or putting him off out of harms way...,) that guy just had a bit too much fun taking a shit on him.
Nope, that asshole Dario and the Dario, we are presented with now, do not add up. I get, why the people hate him and yeah...he was kind of the prototype of that douche in the former MC's party, in stories in which the MC makes a big comeback. But because it is soooo stereotypical, makes it automatically clever to subvert it, by just ignoring it and saying, "Alright. It was all just fun. Look at this guys tragic past."
I guess the author had a change of heart later and now desperately tries to undo the plans he had for Dario, to change it into whatever he need him now for. The best course of action might be to simply forget about ch1 Dario and carry on.
Also Ravi was a gigantic dog, when they met. I don't know how this adds up with the assassin following her, but well....might still better mix, than old chapter 1 Dario and what we got here.

Thank you for the release. I enjoy this series more than most in the genre.
Still, even after reading all the comments here it's interesting to see people's reactions and commentary of Dario when juxtaposed with reactions to Veronica (the brothel girl). People are fascinating.
