I get this feeling they just want her to wear the witch costume and have no effect . The real teaching material set is the wand and other. Whether it is for extra profit or they just want to see her wear it.

I read about magical power in these mangos many times now, but only now did it occur to me how odd it is that people describe "how to access magical power".
Try to imagine that someone is trying to explain to you how to breathe? That'd be strange and goofy, because it's a natural function. The same thing should be true about "magical powers". It's a part of your body, and using words to describe "how to use it" is surely unnatural and strange. And if there's a complication that prevents someone from accessing their natural bodily function, it's because there's a physical problem. You want to talk-away something done with surgery?

In that sense, traditional Chinese medicine makes more sense in this context, since it treats Qi as something that the body itself needs to be prepared for, and it is not something that is necessarily something natural you're born with (at least not on the grand-scale martial artists make use of it). You have meridians that need to be opened, the quality of your veins needs to be at a certain level, etc. Essentially, training.
This is just some random passing thought I had. I find it weird to praise Chinese anything, but honestly, in this context, they at least tried to have a science behind magic, which is exactly what any magical civilized society would do.
edit: odd typos.

@Solipsist Sure, everybody breathes, but circular breathing takes practice. Heck, some people even do regular breathing wrong (chest vs. abdomen). *Directing* your innate magical flow to produce an external effect is likely much the same, since if you don't learn how to do that you ... can't do "magic".

I was wondering if someone would bring up the different forms for breathing, heh.
No argument there, but in that context, you still don't need anyone to explain to you how to breathe. Even if you perform shallow breathing, you're still breathing. That is the concrete problem that just occurred to me in these extra-soft-magic type of stories, in which magic-power (which is an insanely vague term to begin with) is seen as a natural element in the body, but it's also something that is foreign at the same time. You either can, or you can't. There's no situation in which you're subconsciously using "magic", but maybe you're just using bad forms, or doing it inefficiently.

@Solipsist In some magic systems, internal magical energy responds to emotional states, and learning to control it is necessary in order to prevent disasters. In this one, it's possible that it's more of a passive energy that inhabits or is generated by the body, but that responds to conscious direction with practice. So in this case it's not the difference between subconscious/inefficient use of magic and "proper" use of magic, but rather the difference between not performing magic at all and using magic. Unfortunately, the author hasn't seen fit to explain the whole biometaphysical nature of magic in concrete detail including the evolutionary pressures that brought it to its current state, so we kinda have to accept it as presented. After all, if it doesn't make sense, there are really only two primary reasons: 1. The author didn't think it through, or 2. We don't have enough information.

I don't think anyone doubts that these authors don't really care about their magic systems, and just use whatever is convenient to get the idea across. What you wrote would be a focal point if magic was the center of the story (like Witch Hat Atelier), rather than being a convenient tool to resolve problems.
I was just surprised that it only now started to 'bother' me that these magic systems are so glaringly softcore.

I like to think that chunk of rock on Page 2, Panel 3 is all that's left of the golem after the cuckoo has its way with it.
