I'm with other saying that the curse backfired, though it could be that Alan was cursed to begin with and tried to redirect it to Douglas. It succeeded, but when Douglas had it "broken," it didn't actually break but instead went back to Alan.

...so i have this little incoherent hunch.

that the sage is at fault. (if any of you don't remember him... yeah me to.)

maybe the sage come in contact with some demon somewhere and promise him things in exchange for wiping the hero party....
and something like... the sage cursed douglas with the help of some demon, with alan personal belonging as a medium.
and then if by some chance the cursed is broken, then the curse would be transfered to alan... with some soulbound thingy as a plot device.
and so on...

as for the reason why i think like that... i'm sorry, I've read too many things this past months that it started to affect me...

that. or well.. the curse just plainly backfired on him cause he is the one who casted it cause of some personal matter.

or... maybe... the healer is the mastermind all along... mwahahahaha

The way things are going, it's probably someone else and not Alan who did the cursing.

The person probably used Alan's ring so it would seem that it was him if the curse was discovered.
Alan is obviously also being affected by some sickness or curse.
Someone tried to kill Dario too in the previous chapter, and it wasn't Alan cause he simply disappeared like an illusion, though it wouldn't explain the big whole created. With the title "hero", I don't think Alan would have the skill to do something like that, let alone if who we saw was the real, sickly Alan.

My bet is on the sage too. If it actually was the healer I would be surprised since even if they turn out to be evil, they don't normally work alone, if compared to other mangas.

FYI, "Curses come home to roost" - when a curse is broken, it gets reflected to the person who cast it.
Alan is affected by the very same curse he cast on Douglas, that was returned to him when Douglas dispelled it.
He cast it out of Jealousy: he couldn't stand the fact that he - the one granted the title of "hero" - still couldn't measure up to Douglas.
Alan knows what's happening to him but - unlike Douglas - he doesn't have the skills to deal with it.

This story just gets more and more confusing. Can’t even tell if I like it or not
