Top-three things not to tell your daughter.
I mean, the problem isn't using the threat of negative stimulation itself, it's the zero to hundred aspect of it. Disowning your kid over something like that? While you could just as easily, say, threaten to withhold your blessing for continued adventurer work? Unreasonable, and hurts the very basis of the parent-child relationship - which is, as Angie rightly points out, unconditional love: "whatever happens, I will still be your daughter".

I am...so mad the mangaka ruined the seriousness of their final sparring session by immediately following it with Angie making a hard switch back into bratty fathercon:rolleyes:

Belgrieve's not a perfect person. He has his own personal issues to sort out too. It's likely his concern over her along with his own near death experiences and their time apart caused him to react irrationally to Angie. What he did wasn't the right thing necessarily, but he's also not wrong.

You have to look at the context. Angelina asked him to fight her seriously and yet she's still making silly mistakes in a fight where both of them are presumably fighting at their best. Then when her dad lectures her sternly about her mistakes, her response implies complacency because she believes she's strong enough to handle everything.

That sort of complacency can get you killed in that line of work, especially when her rank means that she needs to respond to national distasters because she's the only one who can. And she's not a tank; any of those things can kill her.

We saw that her soft upbringing and naivety already ALMOST got her killed aginst the demon lord if the spear veteran didn't save her. The demon lord disarmed her with pleading words that resonated with her, and if she wasn't saved by spear grandpa she would be headless in a pool of her own blood while it goes on a rampage to destroy Orphen.

Belgrieve also doesn't know how seriously she fought against the demon lord and they haven't seen each other in 6 years. So Angelina's relatively poor performance against a self-perceived weakling like him would logically lead Belgrieve to being more harsh on her especially with his experience of the adventurer life. It's believable for him to come to the conclusion that Angelina may be starting to get too comfortable in her S-rank position.

You've entirely missed the point of my comment above. It's not Belgrieve's scolding that I take issue with, but how absurdly extreme his threats are from the get go. He has a plethora of ways to influence his daughter's behaviour without going to the very extreme options from the get go.
