yeah chicken and egg would be oyakodon, parent and child bowl. for "stranger bowl" you'd need something that's not chicken, like beef or pork or as you said fish.

I've not heard about making the bananas ripen faster using apples, but I suppose that's a modern day usage since bananas also produce Ethylene (maybe the bunch are not affected by their own ethylene).

In the age of sailing, bananas were a bad luck superstition because it would rot the fruit reserves sailors need to prevent scurvy. It also didn't help that floating yellow bananas at a shipwreck can be rather eye-catching.
