Some labyrinth creature definitely feeds on those berries and knows which ones are safe. In our world, observing birds can help in harvesting coffee, for instance.

Well Yoishi is willingly ignoring both the age discrepancy with Ukano and that Almurack is constantly referring to her as sama
I mean she has a tail and horns, he KNOWS she's not a regular human, and considering how casually he responds to a vampire, i just don't think he cares all that much, like sure she might be older then him, but she IS still a kid, just one that ages much slower then he does cause she's a different species and whatnot.

Though it's a bit sad, considering how similar she looked in that flashback to 50 years ago, she'll probably still be a child when he dies, thats not inherently sad, kids are supposed to outlive their parents, but their also supposed to be adults by the time they die, she's still gonna be a kid, i hope someone else can take care of her when he's gone.

Or maybe he'll reject his humanity and become a vampire lol.

Probably the answer is to get some bats and let them figure it out.
Yoshi said the hint was at the vampire doctor's house and bats were eating the berries this whole time.

He did notice the age though, on that one page after a staredown he says "Ukano ... San" he teasingly added the san, adding honorifics to someone older since he normally just call her Ukano
