It's the norm for a lot of groups to drop something when it gets licensed, because they're afraid of their work being "wasted" or something, but official translations can frequently end up being quite ass. I find all the "etiquette" around fan scanlation to be kind of a joke that people take way too seriously, it really just comes down to group preference.

Usually groups drop stuff to encourage supporting the author and what not, but out of sight out of mind is a thing.
Basically every manga that I buy still has people regularly translating them ahead of licensed stuff, while stuff that gets dropped takes months if not years to catch up and I just forget it existed.

Lots of groups drop when localization picks up, some wait until the localization catchs up the japanese raws, some say fuck it and keep going regardless.
It is up to whatever the SL chooses.

IMO don't drop the series until the official translation catches up to you. Then if it's good, do what your heart tells you. Obviously do what your heart tells you from the get-go, but I'd say that approach is the most reasonable.
