so was this entire thing to remove akita's sense of fear? cause if he fears not death nor injury i imagine his moves will become more unpredictable and far more damaging as he will be more willing to take hits to land them. something the brother doesn't seem to comprehend. its an extension of the lesson akita learned from the last boss he fought.
Probably partially, but the more important part that she's trying to teach him is to fight instinctually as obvious as it sounds. So far Akita has just been learning X punch and Y kick and getting by, but as people say this is not about martial arts but about violence.

Remember when Setsuna beat the champion near the beginning of the story? She was weaker than him in practically every aspect but she using literally everything she had available to her no matter how "scummy" they were. That's what she's teaching him to do, how to beat a superior opponent using anything possible.

It doesn't matter what technique you know, if the person you're fighting knows better than you then they'll know how to counter it and you'll be screwed when you don't know how to respond. But if you throw out the rulebook and train your instinct and do any little thing you can in a fight to try and tip things in your favour, you'll have a chance of beating someone stronger than you. Sprinkle in some bullshit to make it seem cooler and that's what's going on.

is the chapter title supposed to be a double entendre?? oh brother
but at least we got some more miu goodness (still counting on the tankobon) and she's also not involved in this bs since setsuna told her it was just a normal camping trip.
still coping this bs concludes asap and we get some onsen action (both a volume extra as well as something in a normal chapter) - especially since every other chapter in this arc is followed up by a two week break (this time because of obon i guess).

Baki, DBZ and Kengan Ashura made me really ok with this kind of power system. I'm not here to read historical realistic more true to life than life itself story, it only has the trappings of realism for grits sake. So yeah, Baki fighting Gaia in the wilds and the big ape beforehand, Goku beating freeza cuz he got nuts... I got those pretty well, even if something were a bit bs
I only think this manga 'seems' to take itself seriously, but it doesn't, so it can be a bit deceiving, but it isn't so serious...

and huh, more scenes of our pair of ladies please, they are the peak of this story, while the fun fights are the foundations

Holy aura mc did the pull up technique 😭 he must've been taught by piccolo.

I get what people are saying about it being unrealistic but as long as it's cool and fun I genuinely don't care. The last arc to me dragged on but this, even if it's silly and more unrealistic, feels way more interesting. It is just manga afterall with the purpose to entertain lol.

Let's hope the volume version uncensored, I'm betting the bonus chapter gonna be a yuri scene from the two girls in the bath.

Setsuna with pigtails is dangerous... :aquadrink:

Yeah, I'm just still having trouble suspending my disbelief that this brother guy turned into a better fighter than Akita in about 5 seconds. There's limits to how much nonsense I can accept, and I'm afraid I'm hitting it here. Hope this is over soon because, try as I might, I just cannot enjoy this farce of a training arc.

I mean it's already batshit that Akita was able to become a fighter who could beat Watanabe in a couple months.

Setsuna's brother is forgetting something really important. Martial Arts is merely a tool to achieve violence. Setsuna isn't teaching Akita Martial Arts, she's teaching him violence at it's most purest state

This is the limit of this kind of genre, in the end you have to not let that bother you or just skip it and look for something else. Unfortunately we cannot reset our brains to feel the novelty of this again like when we were young.

I accepted I couldn't give a fuck about battle shonen long ago and I've tried recent ones. I might find some surprises and enjoy it when it's done well enough to not let these tropes bother me, but most of the time I just can't anymore with the same path of the hero stuff. It's what it is.
I mean How to Fight and Fight Class 3 are two great martial art manhwa that does what this manga is attempting to do right, so I'd recommend that

The author is going to ruin this manga if he writes MC viewing this experience as a good thing and not want to kill the girl.
