For all the people complaining about slavery in Shield Hero, I see this as a much worse take, instead of being part of the system, seems it's built into the system here...

Ah, the convenience of buying a party member.
...I say as I buy a recruit to replace the one that just died as I play Mistover. Ha...ha. Damn bleed mechanic.

But seriously I'm paying attention more to the fact that this Goddess said "aight, screw you and all your children's children" at this point.

Honestly I don’t get the slave thing at all, the way in which they become slaves or their redemption seems abit forced.

So descendants of someone who betrayed the goddess are cursed slaves, but if they work for 5 years their crest disappears and they’re free.
So from birth?
I guess both free and cursed slave descendants auto get cursed?
Why are they caged?

I prefer the usual, forced into it due to poverty, capture or for being a criminal. Clearly defined.

@Add1152000 i agree, the slavery concept here feels quite contrived. it's almost as if the author just wanted to include slaves for the kicks, but then realised it was distasteful and added the caveat of the 5 year contract to appease people. just make it the usual and acknowledge the problems with poverty and power imbalance already, damn.

but at the same time this comic is clearly meant to be an indulgent fantasy that isn't meant to delve into sociology, so i guess i'll just close an eye u_u

Yea it should but it's just a title page. Different QC for this chapter.

@Add1152000 @squarewater

Is it the fact that the goddess implemented it what bothers you or the fact that it's only for 5 years? Because to me it just sounds like a form of indentured servitude the Goddess bound an entire family line to because of their ancestors, which doesn't sound implausible in a fantasy aspect. And indentured servitude was a system that coexisted historically, so that is plausible as well.

I will admit though that I feel that calling it "slavery" is incorrect, as the two ideas are completely different. Also, the way it was presented here cheapens the concept and is just a matter of poor writing, but I don't think the concept itself is weak.
