Yes, mother, do us all a favour and join Esemori.

Flashback time? Flashback time.

I'm glad we're delving more into Nagi's past. Makes her more of a character than a convenient tool or device to trigger Reiji.

And looks like Reiji is starting to become more aware of the situation. Never too late, run off with Nagi. Ditch Gen and the teacher, be free like your brother.

that is a great way to end off nagis story. as we approach the end what are your predictions? i have three. one is that reiji will kill himself and end the cycle but he will do it alone and we will have a whole chapter dedicated to how alone he is. my second is that he will make a break for it and try to live a normal life free from that town and from his moms influence but it will also highlight how alone he is. my third is that he will continue the cycle “happy” with someone while slowly corrupting them the same way his mom did to him.

Holy shit, everything makes sense now.
Nagi wants to die because she feels guilty for surviving when everyone she ever knew died.
She does what people tells her to possibly because she had no direction or help in life after the death of her family and friends.
I assume she got involved in the inappropriate modeling as a child because she needed money or was tricked into it (it's hard to judge her character because we don't know much about who she used to be).

Regardless, she developed the mindset "just do what people tell you" (possibly also due to something that happened during the earthquake, and definitely afterwards).
It seems she's still stuck back then and can't really move on, her true-self (if she even has one) is buried beneath years and years of guilt and regret. She wants to die to not feel guilt anymore, and in the meantime doesn't give a shit what happens to her if it results in leading her towards death.

EDIT: But since Esemori told her to live, now she has to either face those feelings, or not listen to him.

This is just heartbreaking. I know it's probably not going to happen but I want Reiji to stop her and they both get out of that town and live. Otherwise Reiji will just have a quick death and Nagi will have a slow one. Thanks for the chapter!!!

Meh, it's good Nagi rejected him. She was bland like she's pretty but what else is there? I'm glad that we are FINALLY getting her backstory. I want to so badly like her since she's the "main girl".

Survivor's guilt does that to a lot of people. A lot of the times they wander aimlessly in their lives. Her spirit was died in the earthquake.

Nagi got hit with the Shirou Emiya backstory but replaced the swords and heroism with guilt and depression.

That last panel of her apologizing--was that when gen kidnapped and beat Nagi up way back?

edit: from chapter 65?
e/edit: ah, the actual panel was from chapter 69!!
e/e/edit: also apparently Nagi's line about Reiji being her angel of death was a callback to when Reiji said the same to her back in chapter 114

This is actually the best scenario. In a sense that everything will cu... i mean, come together inevitably: Yuri got out to see Reiji and is bringing the chekhov gun that can free her from the clutch if the abyss Reiji dragged her into. Ishibashi may be already on his way to pick Reiji and possibly realize he isn't in his house, setting the alarms.

Nagi's backstory pretty much will end with Reiji, having total awareness, pulling a last counter question that can be interpreted as an indirect confession. Something along the lines of What if you can still be loved despite of everything?? If a person who can show you that love appears in front of you appears, what will you do?, something enough to make Nagi reflect on her decisions and right when Yuri spots them at the bridge. Inevitably drama and a physical catfight will ensue, but Reiji, as a person who, at his wits' end or when Nagi is in danger, pulls very reckless stunts (like when he stabbed himself as an allegedly final fuck you to his mom and when he escaped from hospital), pretty much he will act on his feelings, but also because of guilt for having pulled Yuri to his own abyss and having tried to kill himself with Chako, he will pull a goodbye confession, and throw himself to the river as a way to expy himself, free Yuri from his abyss' clutch and prove Nagi he also can decide to leave everything behind without an angel of death. That will be the moment Ishibashi interferes, saves Reiji, but also, due to the dangerous stunt, he'll have to put him under custody because Reiji will have to answer some difficult questions.

That shit will also imply Reiji may finally see Gen and have a last talk.

Seriously, this pretty much was the best thing that could have happened.
