Honestly, I'm happy it's finally over this manga's prime was a long time ago and it's just been a continuous spiral of how messed up we can make every single possible situation for no reason. At least we can all be in peace now it's been a journey ladies and gents

Hey, Minenami Ryo, on the off chance you read this, go fuck yourself and never write again you vapid hack sack of shit.
[ningen] it's never that serious

Either the author or the publisher didn't have the guts to kill off Nagi and Reiji, but given the story themes and setup, I'm guessing it was the publisher who made the decision to not kill them off.
I don't get the sense the editor or publisher would care, let alone enough to sufficiently push back against Minenami's intention.

Open ending and unclear explanation, I hopes there is an epilogue or an extra or else this is one of good manga ruined by its ending. Even though last arc was a drag, result in this abrupt ending more likely was axed. If Reiji and Nagi still made it then Sensei is seems to be the one fall into abyss for that end with kidnapping Mao for whatever reason (he deserved it anw)

Reiji's alive, y'all. He appears post-timeskip on page 23. He came to the prison where Gen was being released, waiting in a truck. Chako indirectly asks Gen if he wants to see Reiji on page 22, then when Gen says that he doesn't want to see him Chako makes a hand signal to Reiji, and Reiji waves back. Then Chako and Gen go to the cemetery without Gen meeting Reiji, roll credits.

So Reiji and Nagi are chillin' at the mountain with the pottery lady, probs doing some porcelain therapy. Chako's alive, living in Tokyo, looking healthier than she has pretty much ever, and now Gen's shacking up with her after getting outta juvie. It's a more upbeat ending than I'd expected outta this one.

It's basically a Buy the tankoubons for the absolute experience ending.

One of the 1st manga i read when i introduced myself to the hobby was Masakazu Katsura's I''s, and i thought the volume ending was the mag ending, but after some years i found out that manga also had a horribly rushed end for the weekly serialization, and the tankoubon ending was an expansion.
Nice! I's was also one of my first mangas. Not many people know of it these days.
Also maybe this question is stupid but I really can't remember what Yuko did, for her to go into Prison. Yeah, she manipulated everyone but I can't recall her actually commiting a crime.

Only mad at the ending because I'm gonna miss my weekly dose of melodrama. What now?

I don't know about Japan, but in many places you can still be tried for proxy murder.

I'm not sure what I feel about this, but I think when his mother said she hated him and asked him to leave the town, it's like releasing the spell she casted on him, Reiji was smiling after that.

Having aggressively ran through the series now that it finished, I can say that this series is masterfully done suffering porn. The sheer volume of emotional highs and lows as we trudge through the various characters broken lives witnessing misunderstanding upon misunderstanding build upon itself, trite as it maybe was incredible to view.

The characters as broken as they are were strangely believable and their actions wild insane were still somehow understandable. There was some masterful work done kneading the layers of the plot starting from Esemori's plan reveal, and his past arc was clearly the highpoint of the series, but despite everything I enjoyed the finale.

Having Reiji and Nagi successfully having left the town with the rest of the cast having moved on in their own way, but I do think we do need something a bit more bombastic and exciting for a finale considering how insane the series has been up until this point. I feel like the message of the series hasn't been properly addressed yet with this finale if its kept at arms length away like it has so far, but I hear there will be an extensive epilogue provided by the author released soon, so I can hope for a more definitive answer to authors questions proposed of how to move on from generational trauma and how to better understand those around you.
