I have to admit, it is pretty amazing how the author manages to make each chapter even more depressing than the one before it.

The Drama is necessary to keep it interesting for a manga. It may seem ridiculous to those who binge read it, but irl it's quite ok.

I believe the part where it got unrealistic is the amount of coincidence happening (new problems keep on popping up), and the number of times mc keeps on changing mindset. Normally it takes months to have these kinds of complicated relationships, so the sense of time is mixed up

@calmbreez if you're looking for romance stay away. first part focusing on the idol was the only good one in my opinion, afterwards it just kind of gets progressively worse, in terms of writing and plot.

@godofcleric im totally with you but its not like this mangas is told on a day-by-day basis. Like it spans multiple days sometimes right? So to be fair the story has been pretty solid with realism in that sense.

People's issue with this manga that i noticed is that
a) "he's not decisive and stable enough of a person" who can make right decisions and decide for himself what to do like just leave the town or just work and save money then leave town etc.
b) he's not banging enough girls
c) its getting too depressing and sad too suddenly and there is no point of relief
d) author sucks so story automatically sucks
e) if i notice more i will add it.

Which is kinda not fair coz:
a) this isnt about that kind of story nor is he that kind of mc, its about a kid who is in a bad place at a bad time making bad decisions in life and trying to figure out what to do in a world where there so much expectations on you and you cant decide if u do things for others or do things for yourself.
b) he already banged his teacher and a former idol think that's enough for our sad mc
c) well its kinda that type of story, sucks that shit aint getting better but its a sad depressing story so its kinda to be expected?
d) well if u hate the author why you reading this? Give a comment about what you think of the story instead of the author so people can have a chance to decide if they like this or not

Honestly i have no beef with all the first three reasons that i noticed and i think its ok that some people hate this or dislike this manga. Its not really a story for everyone. Some people will vibe to the mc's experience and some wont but that's just how it is with all stories.

How come I liked Himegoto (same author) but can't take this seriously? well, after some thought, I came up with something. Boy's Abyss tries too hard to be depressive, that's it. No subtleties, no substance, lazy motives, convenient scenarios... just imagine the worst outcome and that's what you get in the next chapter. And without putting effort to make likable characters (say something nice about the MC, I dare you) all you only get is torture porn, and not as hot as it sounds.

Fine, Himegoto may be smut too, but at least you'll not want to kill yourself after a wank, _{if you get horny by cartoons, of course.} Besides, it had its moments here and there. It was a good soap opera that knew how to reach the right nerve at the right time, unlike this one that uses the same exposition when a character burst out their pent up emotions. You know what scene I'm talking about.

Is funny, in Himegoto the focus point to blame (kinda) were the clothes, and in this is the town, but Himegoto isn't even close to the amount of blame-shifting that gets this poor town. THE TOWN DID NOTHING WRONG, blame the author for becoming lazy. Or crippling depressed, idk.

Just read Himegoto, is not a masterpiece but is way better than this mess.
