Lets try to discern what happened.

1. So Rygart disobeyed some pretty important orders, if he came back alive he probably would have been court marshaled or something.

Or 2. Somone is trying to assassinate Rygart (maybe Gunnar?)

So they faked his death so he would be safe.

As allies, Assam took good care of Rygart secretly, Sigyn likely came to visit, serve as a messenger between allied countries, and also repair Delphine. (And maybe DO THE DEED with Rygart)

Once the situation at Mizram worsens, Rygart and co. covertly go to help.

Rygart wins, meets up with Sigyn, and go off to do more things to help with the war.

They're not going off to their happy ending, not yet.
Folse and Boton are with them so they're on a mission. Gunnar isnt present likely cause he was a traitor and got taken out.

Man I wish authors that stop their series prematurely would release like a summary of the plot events that will happen.

A shame the series went as it did. The anime was quite fun so I was enthusiastic to see how it concluded in the manga but with the author having health issues or lack of interest, I can definitely see the holes that started to appear in the series.

I had really high aspirations between the fantastic mech design and the creative fight choreography and was really interested to see how the series would pan out with the ancient golem technology being revealed and how they would resolve Zess's story but the series never really felt like it regained its footing after a certain point, and the lengthy Athens arc didn't help that either.

The political intrigue never really went anywhere and with much of the core mysteries of the series never being touched, I can't help but feel like the series felt a bit directionless and ended without much of a message to wrap up with but ultimately I really did enjoy the fights in the series.
