I just want to lightly add to the discussion and asdfghjkk12’s post:

In one of the earlier chapters around 5-8, I think. Kanami and her real brother were drawing fish, he said trusting people and letting them in was a good/special thing. While, having some blank eyes.

This can be taken in many ways but from my perspective, it seems that the brother already had depression or something going on before the parents’ death. What we’re given in the story is that the parents seem to be busy on a daily basis. I’m guessing he didn’t have much friends or activities going on at school because he had to take care of his sister. This is mostly speculation on my part but I think the subtle details and clues given, paint an idea of how he turned into a hikikomori or recluse.

I find the real brother to be a tragic character and can’t fully blame him for everything. Kanami to a small extent is getting through to him as seen by his shocked eyes about a chapter or two ago. Given the context from the fish scene, it makes sense (at least to me) why he pushes Kanami away.

I think there’s a chance for the brother to be redeemed but I don’t think it’ll erase the amount of trauma or damage done to Kanami.

I didn’t expect to be this long, lol.

I just want to say that this is a pretty good series and all... but him handing her money still rubs me wrong

I think I will enjoy this more if the older brother has an actual reason to hate his sister and no rental! you spend time with others because you want to and from what I have seen so far money isn’t the motivator, the rental older brother can still say no I won’t come because I have part time or homework for example he can ignore the little girl if he was busy but he always makes sure to answer her calls because he wants to help her... I don’t see why rental is necessary .. maybe if I like someone I should offer my rental services lol
