This has a really low rating but honest I really like the story so far. People are too quick to give something depressing or controversial a low rating when this story could prove interesting.

To address a few common points:

- I can understand a 14 year old not fully understanding prostitution, especially if his mother has been going out of her way to hide such topics considering her...profession. Plus he's shown not to have any friends or relationships with people, because they don't want to associate with him because he's poor. Middle School doesn't exactly tend to cover sex is very much detail in general and they definitely wouldn't cover prostitution. I think this perception of him as just a "stupid mc" ignores how he's clearly been neglected, abused, and bullied, which correlates to low intelligence, in pairing with a poor socio-economic background and asocial behavior, which probably would result in child-like naivety.

-The mother being a prostitute is depressing, but it's firmly established that they're dirt poor. The cost of living and what she earns is not enough to sustain her family indefinitely, and the money she can earn from having sex is not something she can do every night or day and so has to be spread out. This gives the appearance that she's acting in desperation and MC is willful ignorant or intentionally pulling a blind eye to his mother's behavior. Even if she was intentionally keeping the money from him, it only serves as interesting characterization and shouldn't detract from the quality of the story.

This definitely deserves a higher rating. It's well-written and interesting for what it is so far.

Seems to me the mom cares.
She keeps careful track of expenses and does indeed make sure hes fed.
There was even talk in chapter 1 about a phone for him (too expensive tho)
And she gave him money when he asked.
Dont bash the mom shes doing her best I say

This is really good. Never had a manga convey the pain of being poor quite so well. This guy's worry over an eraser is insane to me. 30 cents to your name? Fuck. Never felt so privileged in my life.

How was his mom exposing herself when she was completely covered outside of her collar bones?
Also, how the fuck does how everything landed after he fell off his bike make sense? Why would his backpack come off?

@Nothas
Well, she was wearing a skirt. Enough reason for generic neighborhood rumor tellers to talk all kind of bs behind one's back.
Jokes on them, though - she might be even sleeping around with their husbands, lol.

Okay this is weird. I can’t say much for the story because it feels we haven’t gotten much for it, but right now it’s just difficult to read. It’s cringey and the entire thing comes off as awkward. I may not have explained myself well, but it’s kinda hard to want to move to the next page. For one thing the mc could act less like... he is.... like entirely less like that. For another is this just going to be a bunch of mean people badmouthing others within earshot in a way that makes no sense? Because the mom looked fine when she gave the mc the cake. Presentable and she wasn’t showing that much skin. And the drama feels pretty superficial and forced. Also that highschooler is obviously taking advantage of a poor kid who doesn’t get enough love from his family (so he pays for head pats... that’s just sad). Kinda hard for her to be the main heroine when she act so unlikeable. I feel like the first chapter the mc should have spent more time with her (talking about things), and then instead of small change (which is all the money he has and he can’t even save that up without risking his mom throwing him outside.... she seems like the type to do that) she treated him nicely and pampered him for favors and or a fake currency or something. Or maybe even a mutual exchange, and then make it clear that they’ll help each other grow to be better people and blah blah blah. It’s chapter 2 and I have no idea what the story is or is trying to be, and I’m not particularly interested to find out. The first chapter’s supposed to be long to get all this out of the way and start the ball rolling.

First time I read the chapter I really felt for the family. Mom is prostituting herself just to make ends meet, gets a cake from her John, and immediately shares it with her son.
Such a pitiable existence, I it really hit me
